Salem USD
Salem Township (Township) has established an Urban Services District (USD) for development of residential and commercial areas within the Township. The designated USD consists of approximately 1,400 acres of land within Sections 25, 26, 35, and 36 of Salem Township and Specifically bounded north by North Territorial Road, west by the eastern 1/2 of Section 26 (north of M-14), west by the easten 1/2 of Section 35 (north and south of M-14), south by Joy and Ann Arbor Roads, which are the southernmost section lines of Sections 35 and 36, and east by Napier Road.
The USD is designated to receive public water and wastewater services. Water supply will be provided from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) while sanitary sewer service for the USD is anticipated to be provided by the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority (YCUA).
The Township received a $20 Million Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Grant to fund design and construction of water and sewer utilities. The design of three phases of water and sewer utilities was initiated in 2019 and is still in progress. Engineering design for USD Phase 1 is complete and construction is underway. Design and permitting for water and sewer utilities to serve Phases 2 and 3 of the USD continues. The USD project phases can be viewed in the attached figure.
